Brutal Legend star Jack Black is to host the Video Game Awards 2008 on December 14th, with gameplay footage from the new Double Fine game set to debut at the ceremony.

Black will also show off the world's first God of War III trailer, and we're also promised new snippets from Fight Night Round 4, Mafia II, Terminator Salvation, Uncharted 2, Watchmen: The End is Nigh. Some kind of news concerning Gears of War 2 will also be forthcoming.

The show will be broadcast at 9pm PST on Spike TV, with Will Wright set to land a Gamer God gong, while luminaries such as Hideo Kojima, Cliff Bleszinski, Todd Howard, Alex Evans and other industry celebrities likely to be on hand.

"We’re thrilled to have [Jack Black] as our host. With a record 10 world premieres including Brütal Legend starring Jack, it will be a big night and wild ride!" said Spike's Casey Patterson.
